Monroe Clinic received a "Recognition Award" (Commercial Landscape Contracting category) in the 42nd Annual Environmental Improvement Awards Program sponsored by PLANET, the Professional Landcare Network.
Stano's Greenroof Gardens on the Northwest Addition of the Monroe Clinic previously received top honors in the Wisconsin Landscape Contractor's Association (WLCA) annual competition. The project, located in Monroe, Wis., involved the installation of green roofs on three roof areas.
Two of the roof areas incorporated a tray-based vegetated green roofs totaling 12,000 square feet, comprised of over 5,000 pre-grown vegetated trays provided by LiveRoof. A pedestrian-accessible intensive green roof occupies the third roof level.

The design layout was an orchestration of overlapping circle diameters. The circles were formed with 850 linear feet of aluminum edging, each circle containing a custom-designed mix of yellow or blue-accented sedum varieties. An automatic irrigation system will provide water to the plants.
Arcs of square stepping stones, adjacent to the planted circles, reflect the circular plant beds and imitate a ripple-effect across a pond.
The third area, the Chapel Roof, features poured-in-place concrete curbs that serve as low-profile planting beds. Pisa 2 wall block was used to create deeper planting beds in circular shapes. The center garden area includes five custom-made cylindrical pots. Planting beds are populated with a selection of shrubs, perennials and grasses, providing an array of colors, shapes and textures. A paver patio, benches and stepping stone path were also incorporated into the area.
